Ruffles on Top

Top: Topshop (similar)
Necklace: Cookie Lee (similar herehere)
Shoes: Saks Fifth Ave. (similar)
Purse: Z Spoke by Zac Posen

As a petite person with rather wide hips for my size, I look for pieces that will elongate my figure and accentuate my favorite part of my body, my waist.  That is why I love high waisted bottoms.  They create an illusion of longer legs and a slimmer waist.  Always a plus!  These pants hit about two inches above my belly button, so I decided to pair it with a Topshop crop top.  I’m not sure if you can tell from the pictures, but the crop top fits close to the body like a bustier or bralette beneath the layers of luxurious ruffles.  This allowed me to tuck the top into my pants because it was just long enough so my stomach would not show.  Normally I am all for showing just a little bit of a bare waist, but since the pants have a satin-like finish, I wanted to keep it a bit more classy and conservative.
To finish the look, I wore a silver beaded necklace and a sterling silver ring.  I wanted the jewelry to enhance the outfit, but not stand out too much because I wanted the contrast between the cascading ruffles and the tailored pants to be the focal point of this look.  To me, this would be a fun but appropriate outfit to wear to work or a business meeting when paired with a black blazer.  Adding a fun texture or a pop of color, such as magenta, is an easy way to turn a plain business outfit from drab to fab!

Hope you all have a wonderful Thursday!

Love,
Kris
