People say that everything has been done before and that fashion just goes around in a circle, but I don't fully agree.  I believe styles and certain trends come around again, but they are always modified in order to attract the current consumers.  As a lover of vintage pieces that have a modern twist, I am always on the lookout for items inspired by the Elizabethan Era. Everything about that time period just fascinates me.  I even named my blog after Queen Elizabeth I because you have to admit, she was quite the fashionista!
With that said, the purchase of this "Camille" top from Maje was a no brainer.  As soon as I saw it on the hanger, the opening scene in the movie, Elizabeth, played over in my head as I tried on this beautiful blouse.  In that scene, Queen Elizabeth I was still a princess and she is dancing with Robert Dudley, her closest friend, and rumored lover.  She is in a beautiful green dress, simple and elegant, and he is wearing a chemise quite like the one pictured above.  Men's clothing during that time were much more ostentatious than it is nowadays and much more romantic in my opinion.  They would wear these chemises with billowy sleeves beneath their ornate doublets.
It's interesting to see women's fashion progress over the decades, from only dresses to two-piece outfits with the addition of pants.  To proudly display this progression of style, I paired this menswear inspired blouse with bellbottom jeans.  I decided to add a bit of a western flair with this mahogany and gold belt to pull the ensemble together.  For a touch of femininity, I wore these platform heels and adorned myself with a few jewelry pieces. Since the elegant simplicity of the blouse is what I wanted to accentuate, I chose to hold off on statement jewelry pieces.  I decided on these ornate gold earrings, the matching bangle and a gold ring with rhinestones.
There have been many runway collections inspired by the Elizabethan Era- from Alexander Mcqueen to Vivienne Westwood. Personally, I love this era, but what time period ignites your fashion inspiration?  Let me know in the comments below.  Sending you lots of love from my heart to yours!
