Feeling Fabulous

Monday, September 20, 2021

It has been a while since I had a Carrie Bradshaw moment here on Elizabeth, Marie, & Me, so I thought it was about time I did. There's such a wonderful thrill attached to dressing up in a flouncy dress and a pair of sparkly heels during the day for no reason whatsoever. Maybe it's because it almost feels daring to strut down the street or step into a grocery store looking like you're ready to walk down the runway or prance into a party. Dressing up always draws attention whether it's during the day or at night, but I honestly think the epitome of the saying, “Feeling fabulous” has nothing to do with a specific type of clothing or accessories. To me, it means dressing for yourself, honoring your style, wearing what makes you happy, and owning it.

Besides the years I had to abide by school dress codes and occasionally dress appropriately for family events, I have never dressed for anyone else but myself. Fashion faux pas and all, I've only ever dressed for me, and I'm proud of it. Even when people criticized my outfits, I never apologized for expressing myself through style, and neither should you.
I remember when I was a little, I'd get all dolled up on the weekends because I couldn't during the week at school. No matter if I was going out to the movies with my parents, out shopping with friends, or just to the grocery store, I wore my favorite fancy outfits. As a got older, I think my style has become more relaxed. I now wear leggings and a tee or bike shorts and a cropped tee when doing errands, but there are still days when I feel like twirling around in heels and a dress.

Speaking of “out-there” style, can you tell that this belt is actually a necklace and that the magenta flower in the middle is really an earring? I love wearing jewelry in unexpected ways! Not only is it fun to experiment, it’s always exciting to find new ways to wear things you already have in your closet. It helps to keep your outfits feeling fresh and current without having to invest in new pieces.

I hope this post inspires you to dress to the nines on a random Monday morning just for fun and to play with different ways you can re-wear pieces that you already have. Remember, feeling fabulous is wearing whatever makes you happy. As always, I am sending you lots of love from my heart to yours!
