How & Why I Posh

Sunday, May 23, 2021

Summer is almost here, so I’ve been doing a bit of last minute spring cleaning. Besides tidying up my workspace and room, I’ve also been doing a little spring cleaning in my closet. I made two piles of clothes, a donation pile and another to upload to Poshmark. Poshmark is a great place to sell your new and gently worn clothing and accessories that you no longer fit or want. (You can even sell home goods on Poshmark!) Still have a beautiful dress you bought years ago that no longer fits? Posh it. What about the cute pair of jeans you said you were gonna wear six months ago, but never wore? Posh it. Spring cleaning means, “Out with the old,” so summer can say, “In with the new!” Well, that’s how I look at it. With that said, today I wanted to take you step by step on how I Posh and 5 reasons why I love the app, so let’s dive right in!

How I Posh-

1- Preparing and Inspecting the Items

The first important step I do is to inspect the item and prepare it to be photographed. If the item is gently worn, I either wash, dry clean, and/or steam iron it before I inspect it further for stains, rips, and other imperfections. If I am able to remedy a little imperfection, I’ll do that before I photograph it for the Posh listing.

2- Taking Photos and Videos

Having clear photos with good lighting is essential to creating an appealing listing on Poshmark. Personally, I like to pull stock photos from Google of the item and upload them to my listings because I have found that it helps to sell my inventory faster. For some listings I will include both the stock photos as well as my own.

3- Taking the Measurements

After photographing an item, I will usually take the measurements of the item and write them down in a little notebook and save it until I am ready to create new listings on the Poshmark app. The measurements I usually include in the description section of each listing are the bust, waist, hip, and length.

4- Creating Listings

Uploading to the app is fairly simple and easy to navigate. After I square the photos, I’ll add the title, a short description with the measurements, select the item’s category, quantity, size, brand, color, and price. Last but not least, I’ll tap “Next” and “List.” And just like that, the listing is now live!

5- Storing the Item

After the items are up on Poshmark and available for purchase, I will place them in storage. I’ve found that storing my inventory in clear plastic containers works best for me. I have larger clear containers for clothing, medium containers for jewelry/accessories, and small individual containers for shoes. I also like to place the more delicate items in clear plastic bags to keep them from getting damaged. Clear bins and bags make everything organized and easy to find when it’s time to wrap and ship!

Whew! Okay, so now that we’ve gone through the nitty gritty, let’s talk about why I Posh. I’ve been using the app for years and I honestly love it because . . .

1- Easy to Use

Personally, I think Poshmark app is easy to navigate, which is a huge plus for me because I’m not the most tech-savvy person. They say, “Time is money,” so the more listings you upload, the more chances you have of making sales, so the ease of uploading definitely cuts down the amount of time to create new listings.

2- I Call the Shots

I love that I have full control over my listings when it comes to the photos, description, prices, and the discounts I can offer to my customers. Being able to negotiate with customers individually on specific items or bundles is one of the perks of the app that I appreciate. Although Poshmark takes a 20% profit from each sale, I feel as if they have my back as a seller. Every problem I’ve encountered over the years on the app has been solved quickly and fairly with just an email.

3- Form of Passive Income

I often sell items on the app while I am asleep, so this may be my most favorite thing about Poshmark. Once I list the items, they are available for purchase. Sharing my own listings help to attract traffic to my Poshmark closet, but I don’t have to share 24/7 in order to make sales.

4- The Posh Community Support

One of the greatest parts about Poshmark for me is the community, which makes Postmark so different from a lot of other re-selling apps and websites. I’d say 95% of the people that I’ve connected with on the app are incredibly kind and helpful. For the most part, I’ve found it to be a wonderful community of sellers and buyers who genuinely want to help each other reach their goals whether they sell on Posh as a side hustle or a full-time job. Sharing is caring!

5- Great for the Environment

Lastly, I love Poshing because I can clear out my personal closet sustainably while making money. It’s the best feeling when my customers tell me that they love their items. It brings me so much joy knowing that my pieces have found new loving homes.

Well, this was a lengthy post, wasn't it? If you’ve made it all they way to the end, thank you so much! But before you go . . . be sure to check out my Posh closet HERE. My username is kristentanabe if you're interested in popping by. (I recently uploaded a handful of spring/summer items to my closet that are brand new with tags!) Also, let me know in the comments below if you’re a Posher too, so we can connect and follow each other on the app! As always, I am sending you lots of love from my heart to yours!
