When it comes to style, I am not one to hop on the trend bandwagon. I tend to dance to the beat of my own drum, but I am all aboard the corset trend. My adoration for this close-fitted undergarment blossomed from my love watching period films such as Elizabeth, Shakespeare in Love, and Titanic. Since it is a structured garment that has a historical reputation of exuding sophistication and refined taste, I decided to contrast it with a laid-back ensemble. Of course, this outfit would be viewed as “not proper for a young lady” back in the 1800s, but for the 21st century, this outfit is what I call “vintage-inspired with a modern twist.”
I find it’s wonderful to take a break from wearing girly ensembles and rock an androgynous look. It’s like a breath of fresh air after breathing in too much perfume. That’s why sometimes you will find me wearing tulle or velvet and other times, you’ll see me wearing men’s clothing. I see it as a balancing act- a yin to the yang. Today I styled this black corset belt with a white men’s tee, ripped boyfriend jeans, and an oversized jean jacket. Besides the belt, this outfit is the epitome of comfortable. To mimic the details on the corset, I slipped into a pair of black lace-up booties, and I wore slate colored jewels to add just a touch of sparkle.
Let me know in the comments below what you think of the corset trend. Is it a “yay” or “nay” in your eyes, fashionistas? If you are all for this look, that makes two of us! But, if you are not a fan of this trend, what trend are you loving right now? I would love to know! As always, I am sending you lots of love from my heart to yours!
