Love is in the Hair at Paul Brown Salon

Tuesday, June 05, 2018

Hey fashionistas, I finally did it!!!  After sporting long locks for years I was ready to chop it off and spice up my hairstyle, so I made an appointment with Paul Brown at the Paul Brown Salon at Ward Center.  Hairstyles are like perfumes and scents in the way that they help to create memories of different chapters in my life.  Since middle school, I wore a different eau de toilette or perfume almost every year, but haven't switched up my hairstyle in quite some time.  I've been itching to let go of my long wavy locks, but I was never brave enough to do so until now.
Paul Brown cut and styled my hair last year and it was honestly the best haircut I've ever had.  It grew out beautifully and it required little to no effort to look great.  I would wash my hair at night, run my fingers through my hair the next morning, and it would look photo shoot ready.  This time around I knew that I wanted a drastic change in my hairstyle and the only person I trusted was Paul.  He was so kind to let me document this transformation and I wanted to share it with you here on Elizabeth, Marie, and Me.  I hope you enjoy it!

Every transformation requires a before and after shot, so here's what my hair looked like before my appointment with Paul Brown.  Looking at it now, I think that was the longest my hair has ever been!

The first order of business was to determine what hair length I desired and what style I wanted.  I knew I had my mind set on a shorter length, but I wasn't sure how short I wanted to go.  He envisioned me in a modern pixie cut, but I wasn't bold enough to go through with it, so we compromised on having the ends of my hair dangle right above my collarbone.  Who knows, maybe I'll go even shorter for my next hair appointment?  We shall see!

Before the styling process could commence, Paul asked me if I wanted to donate my hair to Locks of Love, and I immediately said, "YES!"  For those of you who are not familiar with Locks of Love, it is a non-profit charity that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada under age 21 suffering from long-term medical hair loss.

I've wanted to donate my hair ever since I heard about this non-profit organization years ago, so I was ecstatic when Paul told me that I could make a contribution!  It warms my heart to know that I will be helping to create a little happiness for a child, and now I can proudly cross it off my bucket list!

After chopping off about ten inches of hair, Paul took his scissors and began snipping and spritzing sections of my hair with water while his assistant, Bre, helped hold the other sections of hair in place.  It was mesmerizing to watch the comb glide through the strands and how the scissors grazed the ends of my hair, much like watching an artist at work.

There are many reasons why I love Paul Brown's haircuts, but my top three would be that he is incredibly creative, meticulous and thorough, and he creates beautiful hairstyles.  My hair is naturally wavy and he always styles my hair in a way that enhances it.

After he finished his masterpiece, Bre shampooed and massaged my hair.  I felt so pampered!  I don't know about you, but getting a head massage is always one of my favorite parts of getting my hair done!

Paul then blew out my hair, intensifying my natural waves with a round brush.  He makes it look so easy and effortless, but I tried it at home and, trust me, it's a lot harder than it looks.  Luckily, my hair looks just as great when it air dries because let's be real, this girl ain't gonna blow out her hair every day.  I rarely brush my hair, so low-maintenance is key.

And here is the final look!  I absolutely LOVE my new hair!  It's fresh, it's a much-needed change, and I feel like myself, but a bit more confident.  My long locks kept me looking like a 16-year-old, but now I truly feel 23 with my new hairstyle.  I cannot wait to show it off in future outfit posts, so stay tuned!  Also, if you live on Oahu and are looking for a master hairstylist, or if you're visiting the island and want to sport a new do, you have to check out Paul Brown and his salon.  I've linked his website HERE and above, so be sure to check it out!  Paul Brown is a hair god, but above all else, he loves what he does, he takes pride in his work, and it reflects in his creations, his salon, and the smiles on his clients' faces.  Until my next post, I am sending you lots of love from my heart to yours!
