Among the Crown Flowers

Wednesday, July 25, 2018

Hawai'i is known for its array of tropical flowers such as orchids, heliconias, plumerias, and gingers.  Of them all, these lavender and milky white crown flowers (also known as "pua kalaunu") are one of my favorites.  Although this flower is a native of India, Hawai'i has embraced it as a local flower and it is often threaded to create lei.  Queen Lili'uokalani, the last monarch of Hawai'i, also loved this regal flower and deemed it her favorite.  Today I wanted to share the beauty of these flowers with you along with this outfit.

If you checked out my Nordstrom Anniversary Sale blog post, you will probably recognize this Leith sweater dress.  It's one of my favorite purchases from the sale and I couldn't wait to style it and share the final look here on Elizabeth, Marie, and Me!

Since this sweater dress shows off my curves, I wore my ultra high-waisted shaper panty from Shapermint.  I wanted to highlight my body type without drawing attention to all the little lumps and bumps around my mid-section.  With the shapewear, it smoothed everything out and helped me to showcase my figure.

A camo shirt jacket doesn't seem like a perfect item to pair with a body-hugging feminine dress, but I love the way the two pieces look together.  The tomboy/street chic vibe of the "shacket" helped to make this outfit more interesting, don't you think?  I think it sort of throws a curveball and adds an unexpected twist.

For jewelry and accessories, I opted for a statement bib necklace (that I also purchased from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale) because the muted toned gems sprinkled a touch of glamour while my mint green sunnies added a laid-back vibe.

To top it all off, I chose to wear a structured dusty rose purse and platform nude heels.  It may be unnoticeable in the photo above, but there are specks of rose, nude, and beige in the statement necklace, making these accessories crucial pieces that pull the whole outfit together.  What do you think?  Is this something you can picture yourself wearing?  If not, let me know in the comments below how you would style this sweater dress.  I'd love to know!

Thank you so much for taking the time to stop by my blog and read this post!  I'll be featuring the other pieces I purchased from the Nordstrom sale in upcoming blog posts, so keep an eye out for that! Until then, I am sending you all lots of love from my heart to yours!
