Happy International Women's Day!  In honor of this special day, I wanted to share with you this fierce look.  My inspiration for this photo shoot came from Ruben Toledo’s fashion illustration of a woman warrior who exuded confidence and power.  I loved that he chose to draw her in heels because it’s as if he is saying that this Joan of Arc-like woman can carry out the duties of men, and still portray a feminine exterior.  This image definitely struck a cord with me because of its feminist qualities, and I wanted to put together a modern look that also created that strong image.
For this outfit, I layered a sleeveless tiered panel top over a spaghetti strap tulle dress and a statement puff sleeve blouse.  I chose the tiered tank because I thought the design echoed elements of French medieval armor, such as the breast plate and paneled hem, and it paired nicely with the bold sleeves of the white blouse.  Since these pieces created a strong silhouette much like the illustration, I layered the tulle dress in between to add a soft feminine touch.  And of course, I wore a pair of pants (well, faux leather leggings to be exact) to lean into the medieval idea of pants being a masculine clothing item and contrasted them with a pair of heeled boots.  Adding a bit of glamour, I wore a pair of rhinestone earrings to resemble the chainmail of the knights’ attire, and two metallic bangles because a woman warrior has the right to be fabulous.
If Joan of Arc were to be reincarnated in this lifetime, I know she would rock this outfit with pride and be as revolutionary as she was about 1,300 years ago.  In my eyes, she would be just as passionate and every bit of badass as she ever was- just a tad bit more fashionable.  Let me know what you think about this outfit in the comments below.  As always, I am sending you lots of love from my heart to yours! You are stronger than you think, you are braver than you know, and you are tougher than you can imagine.
