Casual Chic in Cargo
Sunday, December 23, 2018
I know, I know. You're probably thinking, "Oh, no. Not again with the cargo pants! She literally just wore cargo pants in her last outfit post." You're right, I did. However, this time around I challenged myself to style it in a more casual chic ensemble. A bit unexpected? Maybe, but I love the way this outfit turned out and I wanted to share it with you all and document it here on Elizabeth, Marie, and Me.
First off, I just adore this striped duster! I purchased it a while ago during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale back in July so you may have seen me style the duster with a simple black dress in my Nordstrom Anniversary Sale post. It's a versatile piece that can be dolled up for a night out or dressed down with jeans, perfect to wear on an errand day. For this reason, it makes for a great travel piece.
Since I have styled the striped duster with dark wash denim and a white tee, I wanted to see what it would look like with a pair of denim cargo pants. Yes, it's an odd choice, but I think it works. When the duster floats down at my sides, the pockets on the cargo pants are hidden, which give an illusion of it being just a pair of wide-leg denim trousers. However, when the wind blows through the duster, I don't mind the contrast between styles. Keeping it easy-breezy casual, I chose to pair it with a cream tank bodysuit. To elevate the look, I chose to wear my gold sandals, and accessorize with a gold chain belt, round sunnies, and a black structured round crossbody purse.
I decided to follow through with the "opposing styles" theme with my jewelry choices. I selected a handful of gold bijoux and a contrasting black stone necklace to complete the look.
“I like things that are kind of eclectic, when one thing doesn't go with another. That's why I love Rome. The town itself is that way. It's where Fascist architecture meets classic Renaissance, where the ancient bangs up against the contemporary. It has a touch of everything. That's my style, and that's what my work is about.” -Giambattista Valli

The duster coat, the cargo jeans, and the sandals all look very cool here! I even like the belt. I dig the outfit.
